About This Call

Southern Open 2012 is an exhibition open to visual artists over 18 years of age currently residing in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, or Florida. All media is accepted including paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, video/DVD, and multimedia installations. All work must be original, completed in the past two years, and not previously exhibited at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. Students in degree-seeking programs are not eligible.

The entry deadline is March 25, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. The standard entry fee is $27 for up to five entries, with an additional $3 fee per audio/video file uploaded. An optional $5 membership fee is available. Jury notification will be sent April 13, with artwork delivery due May 4. The exhibition runs May 12 – July 14, 2012, with an artist reception on May 12 from 4-6pm and public reception from 6-8pm. Artwork removal is July 17.

The juror is Rene Paul Barilleaux, Chief Curator and Curator of Art after 1945 at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas. Awards include a juror's pick award of $1,000 and two $500 awards, announced at the opening reception. The juror's top pick will also receive a solo exhibition in the AcA's Side Gallery Series during May 2013. The exhibition will be juried from digital images submitted via CAFE. All juror decisions are final. Two-dimensional works must be wired for hanging. Three-dimensional works may be exhibited on the floor or pedestal. For video and multimedia installations, artists may be required to provide their own equipment. Artists are responsible for insuring their works during transit. The AcA will insure works against loss or damage while on premises, with liability limited to the maximum insurable value. An insurance value is required for all entries. Twenty percent of each sale goes to the Acadiana Center for the Arts. Contact: [email protected] or 337.233.7060.
