ABSTRACTION NOW!

GearBox Gallery invites Northern California artists (Fresno and North) over the age of 21 to submit work for the 11th Annual Juried Group Show. This year's theme, ABSTRACTION NOW!, asks artists to submit work interpreting what abstraction is today in postmodern culture, from nonrepresentational art to figurative abstraction. The exhibition will be juried by Auriel Garza, Curatorial Assistant at SFMOMA.

Submissions are open to all media created between 2021 and 2025. Artists may submit 1 to 3 total images and/or media files for an entry fee of $35.00. Work must be able to be delivered through a standard size doorway and must include title, medium, year, and specific dimensions. Selected artists will be notified by July 7, 2025. In-person delivery is required on Sunday, August 11, 2025 from noon to 4pm at 770 West Grand Ave, Oakland, CA. All work must be for sale, properly labeled, and ready to hang with appropriate hardware installed. The exhibition runs August 14 - September 13, 2025, with an artists' reception on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 1-4pm. Unsold artwork must be picked up on Sunday, September 14, 2025 from noon to 4pm.

Two artists will be awarded featured exhibition opportunities: the Juror's Award winner will be featured in a two-person exhibition at GearBox Gallery in the following year, and the GearBox Gallery Award winner will exhibit in the Inner Room, an intimate exhibition space within the gallery. GearBox Gallery retains 40% of sales proceeds, with payment mailed to artists within 30 days of the close of the exhibition. By submitting, artists grant GearBox Gallery permission to photograph and use images of accepted work for promotional, educational, or historical purposes.
