Abstract Open 2018-2019

The Abstract Art Collective of Santa Barbara, California is seeking submissions for Abstract Open 2018-2019, the 4th annual juried 'Open Call' exhibition of 2D and 3D abstract artworks by Santa Barbara County artists. The exhibition will be presented at the Channing Peake Gallery, located in the County Administration Building, 105 E. Anapamu Street in Santa Barbara. All exhibitions are free and open to the public.

The AAC supports a broad definition of abstract art ranging from non-objective to conceptual, where the degree of abstraction can vary. If images within a piece are recognizable they must be sufficiently deconstructed or removed from what one would see in the real world. Accepted media include paintings, drawings, hand-pulled prints, archival quality prints of work created digitally (no giclée copies of original artwork), photography, collage, fiber art, assemblage, and sculpture. The AAC has limited venues that support 3D work or wall sculpture that protrudes further than 3.5 inches from the wall. Eligibility is limited to all artists currently residing in Santa Barbara County, California, USA, and active members of the AAC.

Submission deadline is September 17, 2018 at 11 PM PST. Entry fee is $10, with an additional $10 media fee for each additional image up to 5 pieces maximum. Artists must submit 1-5 images. Exhibition dates are October 29, 2018 through February 2019, with the opening reception on November 1, 2018 from 5 PM to 8 PM. The juror is Nancy Gifford. Cash prizes include $250 for Best of Show, $150 for 2nd Place, and $100 for 3rd Place. All prizes and honorable mentions will be announced at the opening reception. Artists handle all sales and must donate 25% of the sales price to The Santa Barbara County Office of Arts and Culture.
