Abstract & Non-Representational Mural Call to Artists

The City of Pompano Beach will commission an artist or artist team for a work for hire project for the design and installation of a mural located on the west exterior wall at 1591 E. Atlantic Blvd. The mural theme is abstract and non-representational, and the wall measures 1,450 square feet with dimensions of 26 feet 6 inches in height and 44 feet in length. The purchase budget established for the project is $37,000.00, which includes all insurance, taxes, fees, and artwork installation.

The project is open to all professional artists nationwide who have experience in similar projects. Applications must include a resume, artist statement explaining the proposed design, and examples of past work (minimum 3, maximum 5). An optional proposed design sketch may also be submitted. The Public Art Committee will shortlist the top three applicants, who will each receive $200.00 and be required to submit a complete proposal with a detailed, exact, scaled design and budget list.

In 2012, the Pompano Beach City Commission adopted a public art ordinance to enhance the aesthetic and cultural value of the city by including works of art on public properties. Artists are not eligible if they are immediate family or business partners of members of the Public Art Committee or program staff.
