About This Call
BOBBLEHAUS, an AAPI-owned and operated design studio, is seeking artists for a solo exhibition during AAPI Heritage Month at their 4,000 sqft, two-story space located at 180 Orchard St, Unit D, New York, NY on the Lower East Side. The exhibition runs from April 18 to June 11, 2023.
Artists are invited to propose how they would transform the space to tell their story as an AAPI artist, addressing themes such as personal experiences, heritage, community, or identity. The space features a first floor with significant wall space and a second floor white box space with curtains. Site-specific installations are welcome and should include detailed descriptions of vision, creative direction, fabrication, materials, scale, and timeline. All mediums are accepted, including drawings, painting, photography, sculpture, printing, digital art, installation art, AR/VR, and interactive installations.
Applications must include a full proposal, portfolio, and resume. Applicants may submit up to 2 applications. Work samples should include 10-20 images, with optional audio (0-5 files) and video (0-5 files). The entry fee is $30. The application deadline is February 27, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Applicants will be notified via email within two weeks of the deadline; selected applicants may be invited for an interview. This is a solo exhibition with all work for sale, coexisting with the retail portion of the space. Eligibility is open to national applicants.
