About This Call
VSA arts invites teachers to submit artwork created by their students through the art activities in the teacher's guide of "A Portrait of an Artist-Scientist." Submit three to five (3-5) digital photographs of your students' projects and become eligible to receive a classroom visit from Mark Parsons (U.S. schools only). There is no fee to apply.
Submissions must be made in digital format through CaFE at www.callforentry.org. Teachers must create a CaFE profile and upload digital photographs as JPG files formatted to CaFE specifications. Teachers are asked to type and upload a description of their class's experience with "A Portrait of an Artist-Scientist" and the art activities undertaken (no more than 2,500 characters, including spaces). The description should address how the resource was incorporated into curriculum, which art activities were completed (Foundation Creation and/or Self-Portrait), techniques and materials used, surprising findings, and any student comments to share. For each photograph submitted, describe how the student experimented with art materials and how the work shows a creative visual representation of science concepts.
Permission/Release forms (Teacher and Student) must be downloaded from the VSA arts website and mailed to: Ms. Stephanie Litvak, VSA arts, 818 Connecticut Ave NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20006. Selection is based on creative classroom use of "A Portrait of an Artist-Scientist" as determined by VSA arts. Teachers will be notified via email by February 29, 2008 of selection for a classroom visit. Do not send original artwork.
