About This Call

Thank you for your interest in taking part in "A Persistent Nature," a one-month exhibition at Gallery B in Bethesda, Maryland. The exhibition will run from April 3 through April 26 and will be an essential part of catalyzing action during D.C. Climate Week (April 20-26). It builds on a well-attended exhibition of the same name in April 2025, which was the only gallery show at the first-ever D.C. Climate Week. We are accepting submissions through Friday, February 27, for works that align with and interpret the exhibition theme below.

Accepted Works: Framed works of any medium, no larger than 12” in any direction, are welcome. Please submit one work only (diptychs are allowed). The piece should be wired so that it can be hung on a rail and suitably prepared for display in a professional gallery (e.g., pieces should be appropriately matted, framed, and/or presented). Works accepted but deemed unsuitably prepared for presentation will not be displayed.

Deadlines: Submissions are due by Friday, February 27. Notifications will be made by Monday, March 9. If accepted, work is due by Monday, March 23. Further directions for providing your work for the show will be provided.

Fee: Submission fee is $30 – submissions will be curated, and submission does not guarantee acceptance into the show. Please Venmo submission fees to ImagineEarth Collective founder Alexandra Hehlen (@abhehlen) upon filling out this form. Please reach out to [email protected] if an alternate payment method is needed.

Promotion: Your name and medium will be included in on-site show information and show promotion via the ImagineEarth newsletter and on the DC Climate Week events calendar. You will also be tagged in social media posts promoting the show.

Theme: Nature and art are borne of persistence. Both involve tireless experimentation, iteration and growth. “A Persistent Nature” considers this commonality through works from climate-focused artists who are persevering amid a D.C. community undergoing change and volatility. In persisting, these creators prompt visitors to interrogate how they can practice their own versions of persistence for the benefit of the environment – whether that be through nature-based solutions, policy and advocacy, or climate innovation and technology.

Exhibition events: we are planning a series of events to bring extra foot traffic to the gallery. This includes an opening reception (date TBD), along with a closing reception and raffle during Climate Week (date TBD). We will also be open for Bethesda Art Walks on Friday, April 11, which brings foot traffic to five galleries including Gallery B.

About ImagineEarth: “A Persistent Nature” is curated by ImagineEarth Collective, a DC-based group of creatives who imagine better futures for our planet. We present works as a vehicle for change, discussion and community around environmental topics and are composed of individuals from many different perspectives and areas of expertise, including scientists, researchers, and communications specialists. We are thrilled to co-host this exhibition with Gallery B, a non-profit arts space located two blocks north of the Bethesda Metro stop.
