About This Call
A Digital Art Salon is a juried exhibition hosted by the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art (SLOMA) in partnership with the Digital Art Group, running March 5–May 2, 2021. The exhibition will feature contemporary California digital artists and is juried by Michelle Robinson, an artist and animator with 26 years of experience at Walt Disney Animation Studios, whose credits include Frozen and Zootopia. SLOMA will also host the first Digital Shorts Film Festival in conjunction with the exhibition.
Artwork must be created using digital tools or media, including static or moving images, printed 2D images, video (not exceeding 5 minutes), AR, VR, digital installations, or interactive art. Submissions must be original work and cannot infringe on copyright laws. Artists may submit up to three jpegs per artwork; AR, VR, installations, and interactive artworks may be represented with a video and one additional jpeg. Three cash prizes will be awarded, including a Grand Prize of a solo-exhibition at SLOMA in 2022.
Eligibility is open to all artists currently residing in California. Entry fee is $30, plus a $10 media fee. Entries via CaFÉ are due by January 10, 2021. Artists will be notified January 25, 2021. The opening reception is March 5, 6–9 PM. For 3D work, individual components must not weigh more than 75 lbs, and artists must provide all necessary electrical equipment. For 2D artwork, pieces must be ready to hang and not weigh more than 75 pounds. Artists are responsible for shipping and handling costs. Artwork should ship to arrive by Friday, February 26, 2021, or be hand-delivered Tuesday, March 2, 10 AM–5 PM. Pick-up is Monday, May 3, 10 AM–5 PM. SLOMA will take a 40% commission on all sales of exhibited artwork. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, if the museum is unable to reopen in time, a digital exhibition and digital opening reception will be planned.
