About This Call
A Different Vision is an exhibition at Plymouth Center for the Arts (11 North Street, Plymouth, MA) opening November 6, 2016. This juried exhibition breaks traditional barriers by actively encouraging visitors to experience and explore art through touch and other senses. The exhibition challenges the notion that sight is essential for creating and enjoying exceptional art, while emphasizing touch as a fundamental part of daily life and sensual experience. Designed specifically for visually impaired visitors but available to all, the exhibition will feature sculptures, fabric art, pottery, and other 3D art forms available to be touched and considered.
Eligibility is open to all sighted and non-sighted artists with no limit on the number of entries per artist. Acceptable media include sculptures, assemblages, pottery, fiber art, reliefs, kinetic art, wall hangings, woodworks, textured canvas, interactive art, and other three-dimensional mediums. Artwork must be both visually appealing and engaging for the blind with no sharp edges. Work must be original, sturdy enough to withstand repeated handling, and not exceed 48 inches in any dimension. All work must be accompanied by an artist's statement (50 words maximum) which may be edited and converted to Braille. A 30% commission applies to Guild member sales and 40% to non-member sales.
Entry deadline is September 21, 2016. Entry fee is $10.00 per submission, with an additional $10.00 media fee for each additional work. Submit 1-15 images via CaFÉ. Awards include First Place ($150), Second Place ($100), Third Place ($50), and two Honorable Mentions. Winners will be notified October 8, 2016. Shipping deadline is October 31, 2016, or drop-off available October 30-31. Opening reception is November 6, 2016, 2:00-4:00pm. Pick-up is December 4-5, 2016.
