About This Call
A Change in Atmosphere is a juried group show celebrating contemporary atmospheric firing of New England ceramics, running January 9 - February 16, 2020. The exhibition is juried by Trevor Youngberg and represents works fired with Wood, Salt, Soda, Pit, Sagger, or Raku processes. The show welcomes both sculptural and functional ceramic forms where the main focus revolves around the firing process, including all types of clays and sizes that can be picked up and installed without heavy machinery. Works can be displayed on the floor, pedestals, shelves, or hung on the wall.
All applicants must reside in New England to have their works considered. If accepted, artists must pick up and drop off works in person. Accepted artists will receive details on drop-off/pick-up times and the opening reception.
The Umbrella Arts Center's mission is to enrich lives and build a vibrant community through the arts. The organization inspires creativity, learning, and personal growth through arts education programs, performing and visual arts presentations, and community collaborations. The Umbrella is home to a 30+ year old ceramics program offering shared studios for artists and education programs for all ages. The galleries serve as platforms for the region to examine new visual narratives and engage deeply with visual arts, seeking work that is contemporary, accessible, expressive, and emerges from or directly engages with the community.
