A Celebration of Contrasts

Falkirk Cultural Center presents "A Celebration of Contrasts," an exhibition running January 9 – February 20, 2025. The theme celebrates contrast in art, which can elicit surprise and catch attention through different sizes, colors, emotions, locations, or unlikely objects placed together. Artists are invited to submit work that includes contrast and write a brief statement of 30 words or less describing the contrast used, which will be displayed next to each piece. All mediums are welcome including collages, paintings, drawings, assemblages, sculptures, and fiber arts, but videography and jewelry are not accepted.

The exhibition is open to artists residing within the nine counties of the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, Sonoma). Artists may submit up to 3 separate pieces of original work completed in the past two years, not previously shown in a Falkirk Cultural Center exhibition. Entry fee is $40 for the first entry and $7.50 for second and third entries. Awards include 1st place $100, 2nd place $75, and 3rd place $50.

Artwork size limitations are 36 x 36 inches for 2D work (maximum 20 pounds) and 36 x 36 x 36 inches for 3D work (maximum 60 pounds). All works on paper must be framed and ready to hang. Hand delivery is required on Friday, January 2, 2026 between 10am-2pm. The City of San Rafael retains a 30% commission on all sales. Notifications will be sent by December 12, 2025.
