About This Call
This competition invites Salmagundi Club artist members in good standing to design a bookplate for the Library's collection. The purpose is to expand the Library's repertoire of graphic arts and to inspire and acknowledge the artist members of the Club. Submissions should reflect the Club's past, present, and future. The winning design will be placed in future books accepted into the Library's collection.
Eligible artists may submit up to two works. Each submission must incorporate the Library's logo from the windows and include the phrase "Ex Libris Salmagundi Club New York." Submissions may be made in any size with a 2:3 ratio, but the final vertical design will be 3" deep and 2" wide, so designs must hold their detail at this size. Artists must not sign their work before submission; signing may occur after the winning announcement is made. Only electronic submissions in high-quality JPEG format are accepted. Images must be at least 1900 pixels on the longest edge and no larger than 30 MB.
The award consists of $500, a congratulatory announcement, and the winning plate will be framed and entered into the Library's collection. The winning design will be chosen blind by an appointed committee. Accepted work will remain in place during the exhibition and cannot be removed until it ends. Artists may deliver work in-person during receiving days or ship to the Club with a prepaid return shipping label. If shipping, artists should arrange for arrival one week before the exhibition opens. Contact Jay Barksdale at [email protected] for questions about eligibility, artwork requirements, drop-off, pick-up, and sales.
