About This Call

The Santa Cruz Art League's 95th Annual California Landscape Exhibition showcases work by artists depicting California's foothills, mountains, seashores, and deserts. The first exhibition was held in 1928, and for nine decades it has been a premier venue for California landscape artists. The exhibition is on view July 15 – August 21, 2026, with a reception and award ceremony on August 7 (First Friday, 5:00-7:30pm). Juror: Warren Chang.

Open to California residents only. 2D artwork only (oils, watercolors, pastels, acrylics, encaustic, and mixed media). Photography is not accepted. Artwork must be plein air or studio paintings of California locations created within the last three years. All work must be for sale. Entry fees: SCAL Members $25 for one entry, $10 for each additional entry (up to 5); Non-Members $50 for one entry, $20 for each additional entry (up to 5). SCAL retains a 45% commission on sales by Non-Members and 30% on sales by Members. Artwork larger than 5' x 5' requires prior approval from SCAL staff.

Submission deadline: June 1, 2026 (11:59pm). Acceptance/rejection notices sent June 25. Artwork drop-off: July 7-8 (shipping) or July 9 (in person). Pickup: August 22 (in person) or the week following the exhibit (shipping). Awards: First Place $750, Second Place $500, Third Place $250, plus Honorable Mention. SCAL insures accepted work after installation with a maximum value of $1000. Artists are responsible for return shipping labels and a $35 handling fee for shipped entries.
