8th Annual Allegany National Photography Competition & Exhibition

The 8th Annual Allegany National Photography Competition & Exhibition (ANPCE), sponsored by the Allegany Arts Council in Cumberland, MD, is a juried competition offering more than $5,000 in cash prizes. The exhibition will run from April 2-23, 2022, in the Saville and Schwab Galleries of the Allegany Arts Council. The Public Opening and Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, 2022, from 6-8 PM, with a livestream event featuring the awards presentation available if social gathering is not permitted.

Applicants may enter up to six works across three categories: Color (two-dimensional photographic works printed in color on any medium/substrate, maximum 48" in width); Monochrome/Black and White (two-dimensional photographic works printed in black and white or monochrome on any medium/substrate, maximum 48" in width); and Photography as Sculpture (three-dimensional installations fundamentally based on photography, maximum 48" in any dimension and not exceeding 30 lbs). All entries must be for sale, completed within the past three years, and not previously exhibited in the Allegany Arts Council galleries. The minimum entry fee is $30 for up to two works; each additional entry is $15. For Photography as Sculpture entries, a single video under 5MB may be submitted in lieu of a digital image.

Awards include Best in Show ($1,500), Color Category (1st Place $800, 2nd Place $250, 3rd Place $100), Monochrome Category (1st Place $800, 2nd Place $250, 3rd Place $100), Photography as Sculpture Category (1st Place $1,000), and People's Choice ($500). The 2022 juror is David Oresick, Executive Director and Chief Curator of Silver Eye Center for Photography in Pittsburgh, PA. Artist notifications will be sent March 1, 2022, with artwork delivery deadline March 25, 2022. Pick-up/return is April 26-29, 2022.
