82nd Annual Open Juried Exhibition

The New Jersey Watercolor Society invites artists to submit work for the 82nd Annual Open Juried Exhibition, held at the Middletown Arts Center. The exhibition is open to residents of New Jersey, 18 years or older, and NJWS Signature members in other states.

Each artist may submit up to two paintings, though only one painting (if selected) will be included in the exhibition. Entry fees are $30 for one painting or $40 for two paintings for Signature and Associate NJWS Members with 2024 dues paid; non-members pay $40 for one painting or $50 for two paintings. Entries must be original works created entirely by the artist in water-based media including watercolor, acrylic, casein, and gouache on paper, Yupo, Aquabord, Claybord, or watercolor board. Collage may be used if made of paper and original to the artist. Artwork must have been completed within the last four years and must be at least 9" x 12" minimum, with maximum framed size not exceeding 48 inches in any direction. Artwork previously shown in any NJWS exhibition (in gallery or online) is not eligible. No copies, prints, classwork, workshop creations, computer art, oils, water-soluble oils, textural materials, works on canvas, or nude paintings will be accepted.

Submissions must be made online via ShowSubmit with high-quality JPEG images at least 1500 pixels on the longest edge and no larger than 30 MB. Images must be cropped to exclude mat, frame, and background. Acceptance notifications will be sent via email by the notification date. All work must remain available for the duration of the entire exhibition. Original paintings must match submitted images with no substitutions allowed. Paintings may be designated for sale unless marked NFS (not for sale); all transactions are between buyer and artist, with NJWS receiving no compensation.
