About This Call

The Moorman Foundation, Arts Quincy: America's First Arts Council, and the Quincy Public and Catholic Schools are seeking artists for a special celebration of education and core values through sculptural public art installations at 8 area schools in Quincy, Illinois. Quincy is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River approximately 2 hours north of St. Louis, Missouri.

Eight sculptures are needed for installation at 5 newly built local elementary schools, one public high school, one public junior high school, and one Catholic high school. Each school's piece should reflect the values of the Moorman Foundation and the school and should have strong artistic merit. Pieces that are already created, in process, or concept art for new sculptures may be submitted. No specific medium is required, however every sculpture is intended for long-term outdoor display and should be designed to withstand the elements. Each installation will be installed on an 8 ft. circular brick paved area at predetermined sites. Select sites have the potential to have electricity or gas if required.

Elementary school sculptures should reflect the themes "Learning, Sharing and Caring" and aspirational themes such as striving to do your best, reaching for the stars, and using education to reach your goals. For junior high and high schools, educational and aspirational themes are appropriate. For the Catholic high school, a general Christian and/or school and learning theme is appropriate. The goal is to have an easily understood connection to these themes and to steer away from especially abstract pieces.

Artists should expect to receive compensation in the range of $8-$15K and should submit installation cost estimates. The total budget for each school including installation, brick pavers, and landscaping may not exceed $25,000. Concepts and artwork along with costs and installation information must be submitted by April 19th, 2019. The goal is to install all artwork during the summer of 2019, with completion by late summer and early fall 2019. A committee will review submissions and make recommendations to the board, with formalized commitments to artists expected in Spring 2019. Site photos of each location are available at www.artsquincy.org/Public-Art-Call/
