About This Call
The City of Ocala Cultural Arts is seeking entries for the 7th Biennial Ocala Outdoor Sculpture Competition. Ten works will be selected for a two-year outdoor exhibition in Tuscawilla Park, a 45-acre green space in Ocala, Florida. The exhibition runs from February 17, 2024 through January 5, 2026.
Each selected artist will receive a $2,000 honorarium to cover transportation, installation, and de-installation. Additional awards include Best in Show ($2,000), 2nd Place ($1,000), Honorable Mention ($500), and People's Choice ($500). The entry fee is $25.00. Artists may submit up to three different works, with each submission requiring three professional quality digital images (jpg format, 180ppi), a professional resume, an artist statement, and a document with work specifications including dimensions, weight, materials, and value.
Eligibility is open to artists currently working and residing in the United States with experience designing, fabricating, and installing large outdoor public art. Works must have been completed within the last five years and must be able to withstand Florida's weather conditions (high humidity, high temperatures, heavy rain, thunderstorms, high winds) while remaining maintenance-free for two years. Sculptures must be installed by January 19, 2024 and removed by January 5, 2026. Work may not have been previously displayed within Marion County, Florida, or entered into this competition. The deadline for entries is August 30, 2023. Notification of acceptance will be sent the week of October 15, 2023. Submit applications to: 828 NE 8th Ave., Ocala, FL 34474. Contact: [email protected] or 352-629-8447.
