About This Call
The Gilpin County Arts Association invites artists to participate in its 74th Annual Juried Arts Show, running June 5 through August 14, 2021. GCAA hosted its first juried show in 1948 and is the longest continuously running juried show in Colorado.
The exhibition features over $3,000 in cash awards, including a $500 Best of Show. Awards are given in three categories: 2D, 3D, and Photography. Each category includes three first place awards ($400), three second place awards ($300), three third place awards ($200), and three honorable mentions ($100). Jurors include Jean-Pierre Jacquet (2D), Kim Harrell (3D), and Teri Metallo (Photography), with Jared Hankins serving as judge for awards.
Entry fee is $50 for non-members and $40 for current GCAA members. Artists may submit up to three entries per entry fee. Only original works completed within the last three years are eligible. Work must not have been previously shown in GCAA galleries, and work from kits or executed in classes/workshops is not eligible. Entries in any media cannot exceed 48 inches in the longest dimension; 3D pieces must be easily managed by two people. All jewelry entries must be at least 75% handmade by the artist. Paintings must be original; if copied, only from photographs taken by the artist.
All 2D work must be delivered framed and ready to hang with wire hanging systems installed. Fiber pieces must have a sleeve or hanging system. Gallery wrapped canvases are acceptable if edges are painted. Pedestals will be provided for 3D work, though artists may supply special mounts if needed. Artwork must arrive by May 30, 2021. The opening reception and awards presentation is Saturday, June 5 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. All work must be for sale and remain on display for the duration of the show. GCAA takes a 40% commission on sales; artists receive 60% of the retail price. Artists will be paid for sales within 40 days of the show's end. Artwork is insured while at the gallery.
Submissions must be made online through Café. Images must be JPEG files at 72 dpi, 1200 pixels at the longest dimension, and under 900K. Artists are encouraged to keep high resolution images (300 dpi) for publicity purposes. Accepted artists will be notified via Café on May 1. For more information, contact [email protected] or call 303-582-5952.
