About This Call
The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts seeks submissions for the 6th Salmon Sculpture Competition, a juried exhibition of outdoor sculpture. Up to 12 large-scale works will be chosen for installation at the Sunken Garden Park in San Angelo, Texas. The exhibition juror is Katie Robinson Edwards, Curator of the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum in Austin, Texas.
Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 and older. Artwork must have been completed within the last 5 years and be suitable for long-term outdoor installation and appropriate for audiences of all ages in a public space. Works must be at least 4 feet tall (excluding the base) with no weight limit. Artists must provide hardware and tools for safe installation and make artwork available for exhibition from October 18, 2019 through August 1, 2021. Entry fee is $25 per artist (non-refundable). Submit up to 3 sculptures with 3 digital images per artwork in high-resolution JPEG format (at least 300 dpi). One audio file and/or one video file may be submitted as well.
Cash awards: First Prize $2,000, Second Prize $1,500, Third Prize $1,000. Artists are responsible for transporting and installing their artworks. A crane and forklift will be available for installation and de-installation. Accepted artists will receive up to $1,000 to help defray transportation costs. Artists are responsible for insurance during transit; SAMFA will insure sculptures while installed. Selected artists must sign a loan agreement and artwork should be available for sale, with SAMFA retaining a 20% commission on sales. Exhibition dates: October 18, 2019 through August 1, 2021. A Sculpture Symposium will be held October 18, 2019 from 1:30-4:30 pm at Angelo State University. Notification of acceptance: September 21, 2019. Artwork delivery: October 14-18, 2019. Artwork pick-up: August 2-13, 2021.
