62nd Annual Membership Exhibition of the Southwestern Watercolor Society

The Southwestern Watercolor Society (SWS) is a prestigious national organization celebrating its 62nd anniversary with over 500 members throughout the United States. This annual membership exhibition is open to all SWS members in good standing. Current membership dues for 2025-2026 must be paid no later than June 30, 2025. New members are welcome and can join at SWSwatercolor.org.

The exhibition will be held at the Greater Denton Arts Council, Meadows Gallery, 400 E. Hickory Street, Denton, TX 76201, from August 25 - September 27, 2025. The entry fee is $50 for up to three artworks. Artists may enter up to three paintings, but no more than one entry per artist may be accepted into the show. Artwork must have been painted after January 1, 2023, and must be original work only. No AI-generated reference material or digital media is permitted. Artwork must be framed and ready to hang. Minimum image size is 100 square inches; maximum outside framed size is 42 inches in either direction. Only paper or Yupo substrates are permitted. Watercolor, acrylic, inks, gouache, casein, egg tempera, watercolor pencils, and watercolor crayons are allowed mediums.

The juror is Iain Stewart, AWS, NWS. Over $6,000 in cash and merchandise awards will be given, including the Naomi Brotherton Best of Show award of $1,500, Edgar A. Whitney Transparent Watercolor Award of $1,000, and additional awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Accepted artists will be notified on July 14, 2025. Local artists must drop off artwork on August 16, 2025 between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Remote artists must ship artwork to arrive between August 11-16, 2025. A 30% commission applies to exhibition sales.
