About This Call
The Southwestern Watercolor Society (SWS) is a prestigious national organization celebrating its 61st anniversary with over 400 members throughout the United States. The 61st Annual Membership Exhibition is open to all SWS members in good standing. Current membership dues for 2024-2025 must be paid no later than June 30, 2024. The exhibition will be held at J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, 4th Floor, 1515 Young Street, Dallas, TX 75201.
The entry fee is $50 for up to three artworks submitted as digital images (JPEG or JPG format, under 5 MB, minimum 1200 pixels on longest side). Artwork must have been painted after January 1, 2022, and must be original work painted only by the artist. No more than one entry per artist may be accepted. Artwork must be on paper or Yupo substrate using watercolor, acrylic, inks, gouache, casein, egg tempera, watercolor pencils, or watercolor crayons. Minimum image size is 100 square inches; maximum framed size is 42 inches in either direction. All paintings must be framed and wired, ready to hang. Unvarnished artwork must be matted in white or off-white and protected by clear plexiglass. Restrictions include: no diptychs or triptychs, no nudes, no works previously exhibited in SWS or WFWS exhibitions, and no collage build-ups exceeding 1/4-inch thickness.
The juror is Fealing Lin, NWS. Over $8,000 in cash and merchandise awards will be given, including the Naomi Brotherton Best of Show ($1,500), Edgar A. Whitney Transparent Watercolor Award ($1,000), and additional awards for 1st through 3rd place and memorial awards. Local artists drop off work Sunday, August 25, 2024 (1:00-3:00 p.m.) and pick up Sunday, September 29, 2024 (1:00-3:00 p.m.). Remote artists must ship work to arrive between August 1-20, 2024. Acceptance notifications will be sent by Monday, July 15, 2024. A 30% commission applies to any painting sold following the exhibition. Membership in SWS also confers eligibility to enter the Western Federation of Watercolor Society's Annual Exhibition in October.
