About This Call
The City of Coral Springs Public Art Committee is requesting concept proposals for a public art installation to celebrate the City's 60th Anniversary and the Public Art Program's 20th Anniversary in 2023. The total purchase budget is $150,000.00. Proposals from single artists and artist teams are accepted.
The commissioned artwork should celebrate Coral Springs' community history, particularly its origins as "A City in the Country" with early life centered on outdoor activities such as fishing, horseback riding, swimming, and recreational sports. The city was founded in 1963 on land that was formerly green bean and cattle fields on the edge of the Florida Everglades. The artwork should visually represent or inspire thoughts of early Coral Springs, including its red brick colonial architecture and historic covered bridge. The piece will be located in front of the Coral Springs Museum of History in Mullins Park and should serve as an interactive spot for history discussion and a photo opportunity for guests and groups of all ages.
The artwork must be an outdoor sculpture that is durable and requires minimal maintenance. It should be substantial enough to be viewed from vehicles and by pedestrians and bicyclists. The piece must be self-supporting, resistant to high-speed winds per Florida Building Code, and designed to withstand South Florida's subtropical climate with intense sun, humidity, and seasonal heavy rain. Interactive artwork and sculptures are encouraged. Artists must submit a letter of intent (one page maximum), professional resume, concept sketches (no larger than 11" x 17") with scaled plans and dimensioned elevations, itemized project budget, up to ten digital color images of representative work, and an annotated image list. The deadline for submission is December 15, 2022. Selected artists must provide transportation and installation assistance, give one public lecture in Coral Springs, and participate in meetings with the Public Art Committee. Installation must be completed no later than November 30, 2023.
