5th Biennial Richard and Pam Salmon Sculpture Competition

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts (SAMFA) seeks submissions for the 5th Salmon Sculpture Competition, a juried exhibition of outdoor sculpture. Up to 12 large scale works will be chosen for installation at the Sunken Garden Park (South Abe Street between the Concho River and Avenue D), City of San Angelo. The exhibition is open to all artists 18 and older. Works must be constructed of media suitable for long-term outdoor exposure and appropriate for public viewing by audiences of all ages. Large scale works at least 4 feet tall are sought, with no weight limit. The juror is James Surls.

Artists are responsible for transporting and installing their artworks. A crane and forklift will be available to assist with installation and de-installation. Accepted artists will receive up to $1,000 (depending on distance) to help defray transportation costs. Artists must provide hardware and tools required for safe and secure installation and are responsible for insurance during transit. While installed in San Angelo, sculptures will be insured by SAMFA against property loss or damage. Artists selected to participate must sign a San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts Loan Agreement. Artwork should be the property of the artist and preferably available for sale during the exhibition. SAMFA will retain a 20% commission on all artwork sold.

Submit up to 3 sculptures with 3 digital images per artwork in high resolution (at least 300 dpi) in jpeg format. One audio file and/or one video file may be submitted. Label images clearly with title and view designation. Entry fee is $20.00. Cash awards: First Prize $2,000; 2nd Prize $1,500; 3rd Prize $1,000. Exhibition dates are October 13, 2017 through August 1, 2019. A Sculpture Symposium will be held at Angelo State University on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 1:30–4:30 pm. An Opening Gala will be held Friday evening, free and open to the public.
