About This Call
The Center for Contemporary Printmaking's Footprint International 2016 is a competition for contemporary printmaking within a one square foot (12" x 12") format. The square format presents distinct challenges of composition and expression, requiring artists to engage the space and create visual ordering and formal structure.
Eligible mediums include woodcut, intaglio, lithography, screenprint, monotype, and original digital media. Art must be hand-pulled and generated on stone, block, or plate using printing process. Computer generated art is eligible only if it incorporates other methods of hand pulled printing or handwork. Image size must be exactly 12 x 12 inches (30.5 x 30.5 cm), with outside dimensions of printing paper not exceeding 18 x 18 inches (45.7 x 45.7 cm). Only two-dimensional works are accepted. No drawings, photographs, or direct reproductions are eligible.
Each artist may submit up to three prints. Entry fees are $20 for CCP members and $50 for non-members and international submissions, with each additional print submission at $10 per print. Cash prizes and purchase awards will be awarded. Accepted works must arrive by May 6, 2016 for the exhibition (June 5 - August 8, 2016). All prints must be for sale, with CCP retaining a 50% commission on works sold. Artists may choose to donate all proceeds to support CCP programs. Accepted artists will be notified by April 9, 2016. Unsold works will be returned by mail by the end of the year. Juror: Andrew Stein Raftery, printmaker and professor of printmaking at Rhode Island School of Design.
