59th Annual Membership Exhibition of the Southwestern Watercolor Society

The Southwestern Watercolor Society (SWS) is a prestigious national organization celebrating its 59th anniversary with approximately 400 members throughout the United States. This membership exhibition will be held at Art Gallery Pure, 6121 W. Park Blvd., B113, Plano, TX 75093, from September 5 – October 1, 2022.

Entry fees are $40 for one painting, $45 for two paintings, or $50 for three paintings. Only one entry per artist will be accepted into the show, though each artist may enter up to three paintings. All work must be original water media on paper or Yupo painted after January 1, 2020. Accepted water media include watercolors, acrylics, inks, gouache, casein, egg tempera, watercolor pencils and watercolor crayons. The minimum painted image size is 100 square inches; maximum outside framed size is 46 inches in either direction. Mats must be single and white or off-white. Media must be under clear, unscratched Plexiglas. Framed works must be wired and ready to hang with backing. Diptychs, triptychs, nudes, digital media, photography, prints, and reproductions are not accepted. Collage materials must be painted with a water medium, with build-ups not exceeding ¼-inch thickness.

The juror of selection is Ted Nuttall, AWS, NWS, WFWS, SDWS, Master TWSA and Master WW. Over $8,000 in cash and merchandise will be awarded, including: Naomi Brotherton Best of Show ($1,500), Edgar A. Whitney Transparent Watercolor Award ($1,000), 1st Place ($750), 2nd Place ($600), 3rd Place ($400), and Lou Bono Memorial Award ($500). Artists will be notified of acceptance on July 17, 2022. The Awards Reception is scheduled for September 25, 2022. Art Gallery Pure will receive a 30% commission on all paintings sold. SWS Signature Membership is earned by having five paintings accepted into a SWS or Western Federation sponsored exhibition.
