About This Call
The 51st Annual Regional Juried Art Exhibition and Sale is open to all amateur and professional Texas artists age 18 and over. The exhibition runs April 26 through May 27, 2017 at the Charles W. Eisemann Center in Richardson, Texas. Funded in part by the City of Richardson through the Richardson Cultural Arts Commission.
Eligibility: Artwork must be original, executed after April 1, 2015 without instructor supervision, and must not be copies of other artists' work or previously accepted in any RCAS Regional Shows. Accepted categories are Oil/Acrylic on Canvas or Hard Surface, Water Media on Paper, Collage/Mixed Media, and Pastels/Graphics. No sculpture, computer art, photographs, shadow boxes, or assemblage. Graphics are limited to charcoals, pen & ink, colored and graphite pencils, crayons, woodcuts, etchings, and hand pulled prints. Artwork including nudes, conspicuously religious or blatant political statements will not be accepted. Works that differ substantially from submitted images will be disqualified.
Awards total approximately $7,000 in cash and merchandise. Best of Show (Purchase Award) is $1,500. Judge's Choice Award is $500. Each category (Oil/Acrylic, Watermedia, Collage/Mixed Media, Pastels/Graphics) awards 1st ($300), 2nd ($250), 3rd ($200), and Honorable Mention ($150). Entry fee is $25 for the first image and $15 for each additional image (up to 3 images total). Juror is Hebe Brooks, an award-winning artist working primarily in oils. An awards reception will be held May 14, 2017 at 7:00-9:00 PM at the Eisemann Center.
Size requirements: Minimum 100 square inches (not including mat and frame), maximum overall frame height or width of 42 inches, and must be less than 2 inches deep. Only two-dimensional art accepted. Selected art must be dry and framed professionally using D-rings and wire. For matted work, outer mat must be white or buff color. Watercolor and fragile media must be under Plexiglas. Gallery wrapped canvas is acceptable with painted edges. Collage build-ups must not exceed 1/4 inch. If selected, entrants are obligated to exhibit their work during the entire show or will be disqualified from entry for the following year. Accepted entries imply release of winning images for display on RCAS website, Facebook, or other RCAS publications.
