4th Annual Women in Watercolor International Juried Competition

This is an online-only international juried competition for women watercolor artists. The competition is open to all female artists working in watercolor on paper, synthetic paper, watercolor board, Yupo or other two-dimensional surfaces using transparent and opaque watercolors, casein, gouache or inks. Medium must remain water soluble after drying. Acrylic, egg tempera, permanent inks, pastels, colored pencil, collage, prints and reproductions are not permitted. Watercolors sealed with spray or wax after completion are allowed as long as it does not alter the original image. Artists may enter up to five paintings total, with one entry per category across five categories: Still Life/Floral, Animal/Wildlife, Portrait/Figure, Landscape/Water, and Abstract. There are no restrictions on painting size, completion year, or prior exhibition history outside of Women in Watercolor. Work must be original; no class work, work done under supervision, or copies of other artists' work are permitted. Photo reference material must have been taken by the artist. No work previously entered or accepted in past Women in Watercolor competitions may be submitted.

Entry opens April 1, 2023 and closes June 22, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Entry fees are $35 USD for the first entry and $15 USD for each additional entry. Submissions are made online through Cafe. Digital images must be correctly oriented, show only the painting without frame or mat, and cannot be digitally enhanced. Winners will be notified after July 15, 2023.

Awards include Best in Show ($2000 USD), First Place in each category ($1000 USD), Second Place ($500 USD), Third Place ($250 USD), and nine Judges Favorite awards ($150 USD each). Winners receive hard copy certificates, gold coin awards, and featured placement on the Women in Watercolor website and social media. Top winners will have their painting published in a major watercolor magazine. Multiple merchandise awards, finalists and honorable mentions will also be given in each category. All decisions are final and no entries may be withdrawn once submitted. No refunds are given.
