About This Call
The Brownsville Museum of Fine Art announces the 49th International Art Show, expanding to utilize both the museum's Atrium and Main Gallery. This exhibition showcases work selected by a distinguished juror, bringing together talented artists from around the world working in a variety of mediums. The exhibition runs September 20 – October 23, 2024.
The juror is Alison de Lima Greene, Isabel Brown Wilson Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Awards total $4,200, including a $1,000 Best of Show prize, plus category awards: Clara Ely Award ($250, oil and acrylic paintings), Octavia Arneson Award ($250, water media), Mayor's Award (commemorative plate), and First, Second, and Third Place awards ($150, $100, $50) in each of nine categories, along with Honorable Mentions.
Eligibility: All artists 18 and older are welcome. Works must be original, completed between 2020 and present, and not previously exhibited in a prior Juried International Art Show at BMFA. Entry fee is $40 for 1-3 artworks (non-refundable). Submit up to three digital images via www.callforentry.org by August 11, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Images must be JPEGs up to 5 MB with minimum 1200 pixels on the longest side. Artists must submit an artist statement. Artwork created by artificial intelligence will not be accepted.
Categories include: Painting (oil and acrylic), Drawing, Water Media, Mixed Media, Printmaking, Fibers, Three-dimensional, Photography, and Digital Media. All two-dimensional art must be framed with D-rings and/or multistrand metal wire and ready for hanging. Three-dimensional works must be stable and ready for installation. All art must be for sale; BMFA retains 30% commission on direct sales. Artwork must be shipped in reusable containers with prepaid return label via UPS or FEDEX, arriving by September 7. Hand-delivery is available September 4 (10 AM – 7 PM) or September 7 (10 AM – 4 PM). Juror selection occurs August 12-18, with artist notification August 19-20. Opening Reception and Award Ceremony is September 20, 6:00-8:00 PM. Artwork not picked up by December 7, 2024, becomes museum property.
