About This Call
The 46th Southern Watercolor Society Annual Juried Exhibition is a juried competition for watercolor artists. The exhibition will be held at Panama City Center for the Arts, 19 E 4th Street, Panama City, FL 32401, from June 9 – July 1, 2023. The entry deadline is March 15, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
Artist eligibility: Participants must be 2023 members of the Southern Watercolor Society and reside in the District of Columbia or one of the following southern states: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia or West Virginia. Members in good standing who have moved from these states remain eligible. Membership dues are $30.00 and may be paid online at www.southernwatercolorsociety.org. Artists may submit up to two painting images with a non-refundable entry fee of $35.00, or pay $65.00 to cover both the application fee and membership dues. No more than one painting per entrant will be selected for the exhibition.
Work requirements: Paintings must be original in composition and design, limited to water-based media on paper, watercolor board, or YUPO (unvarnished). Collage is acceptable if it consists only of paper painted by the artist. Image size must be a minimum of 80 square inches as viewed within the mat opening. Framed size maximum is 44 inches in either direction. All works must have been completed in the last 5 years and not previously accepted into SW exhibitions. Paintings must be protected with Plexiglas or acrylic glazing (no glass). The juror is Kathleen Giles, a signature member of AWS, NWS, TWSA, and PWS.
Awards: Cash awards and merchandise awards will exceed $10,000. Best of Show - $2,000, Platinum - $1,750, Gold - $1,500, Silver - $1,250, Bronze - $1,000, Sapphire - $450. Acceptance into three exhibitions earns Artist Signature Membership (SW). Acceptance into ten exhibitions earns Life Membership (LM pays no dues). A 3-day workshop with Kathleen Giles will be held June 7-9, 9 am to 4 pm at Panama City Center for the Arts, with registration at $399.
