45th Virginia Watercolor Society Exhibition

The 45th Virginia Watercolor Society Exhibition is open to current paid members of the Virginia Watercolor Society. Eligible work includes paintings in watercolor and other water-based media including acrylic, casein, gouache, egg tempera, and water soluble ink on paper or Yupo. No canvas, digital, computer-generated, water-soluble oil, or Gicleé art is permitted. Collage elements are accepted if adhered paper pieces are painted in watermedia by the artist. All entries must have been completed on or after January 1, 2020 and not painted under supervision. Works may not infringe upon another's copyright, and if photo references are used, they must be the artist's own photographs. Paintings accepted for previous VWS juried exhibitions are ineligible.

Artists may submit a maximum of three digital images for an entry fee of $40.00. The juror, Eric Wiegardt, will select no more than one painting per artist from digital images. Selected paintings must then be submitted for the exhibition. Accepted paintings must be framed under plexiglass or acrylic glazing (no glass) with white or off-white matting. Minimum frame size in any direction is 16 inches; maximum is 44 inches. All accepted paintings must hang for the duration of the exhibit (May 3 - June 28, 2024). Artists will be notified of the juror's decision by March 15, 2024. Hand-delivered paintings are received April 26-27, 2024, and picked up July 29-30, 2024, at Academy Center of the Arts, 600 Main Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504. Shipped paintings must be delivered April 22-26, 2024, with prepaid return shipping via FedEx or UPS. Awards will be given at the juror's discretion, with a top award of $1,500 provided by the Virginia Watercolor Society. A 35% commission is charged by Academy Center of the Arts on sales.
