About This Call
The 44th International Watermedia Exhibition is an online exhibition with the potential for award winners to have a special gallery exhibition, subject to government health guidelines. The juror is Keiko Tanabe, NWS, AWS, NAWA, AIS.
Entry Requirements: Artists must be 18 years or older. Up to three entries per artist are permitted. Entry fee is $35 per entry, or 2 for $50, or 3 for $65. Artwork must have been completed within the last 24 months by the entry deadline. Artwork must be at least 80% water media (watercolor, acrylic, gouache, egg tempera, casein, or ink). Minimum size is 123 square inches or 9.25 inches on any side (measured inside the mat window). Maximum size is 48 inches in any direction (including frame). Acceptable surfaces include paper, Yupo, Claybord, Aquabord, or Gessobord; canvas is not accepted. Artwork must be original and not derived from published references or photographs not taken by the artist. Digitally created images, work painted from another's painting, work painted under supervision or from teaching materials, and previously exhibited work in WAS-H exhibitions are not accepted. Collage is allowed if water media is the dominant element and all materials are the artist's original designs.
The selection process occurs in two phases. Phase I: Approximately 100 paintings will be selected by the juror to participate in the online exhibition, which opens March 7, 2021 at 3:00 PM CST and concludes April 1, 2021. Phase II: The juror proposes award selections, and selected artists must send framed paintings to WAS-H Gallery (1601 West Alabama, Houston, TX 77006) by March 3, 2021 for verification. Award winners are notified by March 6, 2021. Cash awards include 1st Place $2000, 2nd Place $1200, 3rd Place $1100, plus special awards and merit awards of $175 each. Only one award per artist. An online catalogue will be available on the WAS-H website. Interested buyers should contact the gallery at 713-942-9966 or [email protected]; all sales occur privately between artist and buyer. WAS-H requests a 20% donation for online sales or 25% for in-gallery sales.
