About This Call
Denver Public Art seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create an original mural or series of murals for the 44th Avenue Bridge project located at 44th Avenue and Broadway, Denver, CO 80216. The commission amount is $45,000.00 USD. The goal is to commission artwork that enhances the staircase and bridge and is created with community engagement, highlighting the past, present, and future of the Globeville neighborhood.
The artwork site consists of approximately 2,000 square feet of exposed concrete wall on the new staircase and ramp. The selection panel is open to two-dimensional artwork in all media, materials, and formats suitable for outdoor display. Artists must demonstrate consideration for long-term conservation and maintenance, as the artwork will become a permanent addition to the Denver Public Art collection and will be exposed to physical stresses and potential vandalism. All mural projects will require a UV and graffiti coating approved by the Denver Public Art program. The $45,000 budget is inclusive of all costs including design fees, consultation fees, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and any other associated costs. Prevailing wage requirements will apply for all work done on city property.
Eligibility is open to artists or artist teams residing in the United States. The selection panel encourages artists who can demonstrate a connection to Globeville and the greater Globeville Elyria-Swansea neighborhood. The panel seeks artwork reflecting the cultures and history of the area, strongly encourages community engagement in design and execution, and welcomes collaborations between established and emerging artists. A virtual pre-application meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. on Zoom. The application deadline is Monday, June 2, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. MST via CallForEntry.org. Finalist selection is expected in July/August 2025, with artist selection and notification in September/October 2025. Selected finalists must be available to attend meetings in summer 2025 and present their concept proposals in late summer or early fall 2025.
