About This Call

The 44th Annual Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Exhibition is presented by Center for the Arts Evergreen (CAE) in Evergreen, Colorado. The exhibition is regarded as one of the top watermedia exhibitions in the country and attracts entrants and jurors from throughout the United States. The 2017 juror is Stephen Quiller, an internationally acclaimed painter, author, and teacher who was awarded the Gold Medal of Honor at the 148th International American Watercolor Society Exhibition in New York City in 2014.

Eligibility is open to all artists residing in the United States. Each artist may enter up to 3 paintings for consideration, though accepted artists will only have 1 painting in the exhibition. Paintings must be an aqueous medium on watercolor papers, watercolor canvas, watermedia boards such as Aquabord, Claybord, Gessobord, Yupo, illustration boards, or panels (egg tempera). Non-watercolor canvas, computer-generated works, and Giclee prints are not permitted. All collage materials must be painted by the artist. Artworks must have been painted in the last two years and may not have been shown previously in any exhibition at CAE or a previous RMNW exhibition. All entries must be one-of-a-kind, and source material must be the artist's own design or made from their own photograph.

The entry fee is $40.00. Submission deadline is May 23, 2017. Juror selections will be announced June 22, 2017. Exhibition dates are September 16 – October 28, 2017. Minimum image size is 8" x 10"; maximum frame size is 72" x 72". No glass is permitted; plexiglass only. All paintings must be available for sale during the exhibition. CAE retains a 40% commission on all art sales. In 2016, awards totaled almost $9,000 in cash and merchandise to exhibition artists. All accepted artists will receive one complimentary catalog. CAE provides insurance for artworks while on premises.
