43rd Open Division

This is an open call for members of any IAPS member society to submit original dry pastel artwork. The competition offers the following awards: Best in Show ($2,000), First Place in Honor of Urania Christy Tarbet ($1,000), Second Place in Honor of Maggie Price ($600), Third Place ($400), and four Awards of Merit ($200 each).

Artwork must be created in dry pastel, with mixed media submissions accepted only if predominantly dry pastel. Work must be original, not copied from other artists or published materials, and created within the last two years. Artwork must be originally drawn and not created on top of any photographic image. Work done in classroom or workshop scenarios is ineligible. The top layer of the painting should be at least 80% dry application of pastel. Work may not have been accepted in any previous IAPS Exhibitions (excluding IAPS Member Society shows). Paintings of nudes will be considered for acceptance. Work may be for sale or marked NFS.

Submissions must include high-quality JPEG image files at least 1500 pixels on the longest edge with a maximum file size of 30 MB. Images should be cropped to show only the artwork without matting, frames, or background distractions, and must be oriented correctly. Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline of September 6, 2023. After submission and payment, you may log back in to review, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images until the deadline. Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline, and incomplete entries will be disqualified.
