About This Call
The 42nd International Watermedia Exhibition is open to international artists 18 years of age or older. Artists may submit up to three entries. Entry fees are $35 per entry, or 2 for $50, or 3 for $65. A $5 discount applies to the third image using code IWE32019. Additional handling fees of $50 for shipped artwork or $25 for hand-delivered artwork are due from accepted artists.
Artwork must be created with water-soluble media (at least 80% watercolor, acrylic, gouache, egg tempera, casein, or ink) on paper, Yupo, Claybord, Aquabord, Gessobord, or paper-based board. Canvas is not accepted. Artwork must be original, completed within the last 24 months, and not previously exhibited in WAS-H Annual Member Exhibits or International Watermedia Exhibitions. Photo references are allowed if they are the artist's original source material. Digitally created images, paintings from other artists' work, and paintings from teaching materials are not accepted. Collage is allowed if water media is the dominant element. Enhancement media (watercolor pencils, pastels, charcoal, graphite, metallic paints) must comprise less than 20% of the work.
All submissions must be framed in simple metal or wood frames no wider than 2 inches, with white matting and Plexiglas protection (except for Claybord, Aquabord, and Gessobord). Paintings must not exceed 48 inches in height or width (frame included) and must be at least 10 inches in any direction. The exhibition runs March 3–April 4, 2019. More than $7,000 in prizes will be awarded, including 1st Place ($2,000), 2nd Place ($1,200), 3rd Place ($1,100), and special awards. Winners are notified by phone or email on March 2, 2019. The juror is Andy Evansen, AWS, TWSA, RRWS, PAPA, NWWS. Contact Tom Kraycirik at [email protected] or (832) 356-3587 with questions.
