About This Call
The 41st Annual Whitewater Valley Art Competition, originating in 1978, invites artists to submit work for public jurying and exhibition. Digital images of entered works will be projected in an auditorium on the IU East campus and juried by a three-judge panel. The public is invited to be present during judging intervals to interact with the panel regarding acceptance or declination of works. Jurors will select 50-55 works for the exhibit.
Eligibility: Artists must be 18 years or older and reside in Indiana or adjacent states of Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, or Michigan. All work must be original by the submitting artist and cannot have been exhibited in previous Whitewater Valley Art Competitions. Both 2-D and 3-D artwork will be considered, including paintings, drawings, printmaking, digital artworks, photographs, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, textiles, and mixed media. Entry fee is $30 for up to 3 entries, with a limit of three images per entry. Total award money is $5,000.
Submission Requirements: 2-D works must be ready to hang with wire or appropriate hardware. 3-D works must be stable, with a weight limit of 30 lbs. and size not exceeding 48" in any direction. Works on paper must be protected under Plexiglas or similar; no traditional glass allowed on 2-D works larger than 12" in any direction. All works must be shipped in reusable containers with a return-shipping label via UPS or FEDEX (no USPS). Artists hand-delivering works must do so by 5pm on October 4, 2019. The gallery reserves the right to not display works if they are not presented in the format specified or if the physical work vastly differs from the submitted image. Entry fees can be paid by calling the campus Bursar's Office at (765) 973-8345 Monday through Friday between 9am–11am and 1pm–4pm, or by personal check, cashier's check, or money order sent to: Indiana University East, c/o Carrie Longley, Art Director, 2325 Chester Blvd., Richmond, IN 47374, Attn: WVAC. Public jurying occurs September 20, 10am–2pm at IU East Campus, Whitewater Hall Lobby. The exhibition runs October 18–December 13 in Tom Thomas Gallery and Meijer Artway, with an artists reception and awards presentation on October 18, 6-8pm. Artwork collection/return shipping occurs December 16–20, 10am–5pm.
