40UNDER40 2023

The 10th annual 40UNDER40 exhibition is open to Virginia-based artists aged 40 and under. The exhibition seeks submissions that challenge viewers and push boundaries of themes, materials, and media. All media are accepted, including visual, video, installation, and sound.

Artists may submit 1-10 images for consideration. The entry fee is $15. Work samples may include up to 10 images, 6 audio files, and 6 video files (minimum 1 total sample required). All accepted artwork must hang for the duration of the exhibit and be ready for hanging with appropriate hardware and wire, or able to stand freely. Installation or alternatively presented pieces are welcome. Poorly matted or framed paintings may be disqualified.

Piper Groves, Director and Curator of SVAC, will serve as juror. All artists will be notified of the juror's decision by email no later than February 12. The exhibition will take place in person and virtually from February 3 to March 25, 2023, with a printed catalog produced. Hand-delivered artwork will be received on Saturday, February 26, 10am-4pm or Tuesday, March 1, 10am-4pm. Shipped artwork must be delivered no later than March 1 and include prepaid return shipping; shipped works will be returned by April 8. All submissions must include prices (NFS is acceptable).
