3rd Street Fence Art Installation

The Town of Silverthorne Art Board seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create an original work of three-dimensional art for a prominent fence in Silverthorne's downtown. The art installation should have three-dimensional and two-dimensional elements. Examples include scrap metal installation, found object sculpture, interactive art, light art, artful landscaping elements, or a painted mural with three-dimensional or interactive elements. The installation will be installed on the North-facing fence along 3rd Street between Adams Ave. and Brian Ave. The fence borders the town's public works facilities and should give a nod to the work of this department, which handles infrastructure projects including roads, sidewalks, parks, town buildings, and water systems.

The designated fence is approximately 250 feet long and 8 feet high, with a total square footage of approximately 2,000 square feet. The installation is expected to cover at least 50% of this area. The installation will be viewed primarily by people passing by on the sidewalk or driving on the road, with the Board recommending that the installation start on the northeast corner to pull people in from the downtown area. Text may not comprise more than 5% of the overall design, though artist signatures are allowed within this parameter.

The Town has excess materials available for repurposing, including approximately 30 old street signs of various sizes, pipe and conduit, delineators, old tailgates, and scrap metal. Artists must submit at least one and no more than three conceptual renderings of proposed artwork, and at least one and no more than four links to examples of completed work depicting the artistic style intended for the project. Selection criteria include suitability of design for site, aesthetic quality, broad-based interest and appeal for all ages, and quality of the artist's previous works. The Art Board seeks artists in the Colorado region; artists outside Colorado are welcome to apply if able to cover travel and lodging costs. Entry fee is $10.00.
