About This Call
Join a five-day plein air painting retreat at the historic Rancho Santa Cruz in southern Arizona, approximately one hour south of Tucson on the Santa Cruz River in a grove of cottonwood trees. Instructor Denyse Fenelon, an accomplished southwestern plein air painter, will lead a 3-part workshop focused on seeing and painting approaches based on light and color of the Impressionists. Participants will learn the foundation needed to paint any subject by understanding the relationship of value, temperature, and chroma, along with composition, subject choice, color harmony, and painting skills through demonstrations, materials, equipment set-up, and technology. All mediums are welcome, and instruction is geared towards a beginning professional level; some experience is recommended.
Artwork created during the retreat will be presented at the Tubac Center of the Arts Studio Gallery from October 30 to November 15, with an opening reception on Friday, October 30, 5-7pm. Check-in for the retreat is October 25, 2020, and check-out is October 31, 2020.
Fees: Exhibition fee is $22 (paid online). Retreat with lodging (single occupancy, October 25-31, 6 nights) is $850 and includes 6 breakfasts, ranch barbecue, art instruction, juror, receptions, gift bag, marketing materials, and use of ranch property. Retreat without lodging is $250 and includes all of the above except room and breakfast. Shared rooms are available at a discount. A 10% discount is available for returning artists registering before August 1st. Registration opened May 27, 2020, and closed September 1, 2020. The ranch provides a safe and open environment in compliance with CDC guidelines. If the public health situation in October requires cancellation, a full refund will be provided. Personal cancellations after October 1st will not be refunded the 30% deposit.
