About This Call
Digital Fabrication Residency offers residency programs for artists and designers to build knowledge of how digital fabrication technology aids creative experimentation. The program covers a wide range of software and machine processes including CNC routing, laser cutting and engraving, 3D printing in resin and ABS, automated long arm sewing, digital embroidery, and 3D scanning.
Three residency options are available: a 3-day onsite program where residents gain hands-on experience with equipment and work on project-based goals with DFR staff; a hybrid program offering 6 scheduled days onsite for artists with rudimentary to advanced experience, ideal for planning artworks for exhibitions and larger-scale projects; and online OnRamp workshops providing an overview of digital fabrication technology in 4 sessions scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12 PM EST.
For the 3-day and hybrid programs, residents are responsible for arranging their own accommodations, travel expenses, meals, and any materials outside those provided. DFR works with residents in online meetings prior to onsite visits to plan project needs. The studios are located in St. Michael's on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Applications must include a detailed project proposal outlining planned work and learning objectives. Up to 3 applications are allowed per applicant. Work samples of 3-5 images are required. There are no application fees. International applicants are eligible.
