About This Call
Founded in 1975, the Watercolor Art Society-Houston (WAS-H) is a non-profit organization with over 500 members providing year-round opportunities for artists working in water-based mediums. The organization hosts monthly exhibitions that change each month (openings the second Friday of each month) and offers classes, paint outs, and sales in the WAS-H Gallery in the Houston Museum District.
The 38th Annual International Exhibition offers artists the opportunity to compete at an international level and exhibit work for sale in the WAS-H Gallery for an entire month. Artists may submit up to 3 paintings for consideration; if accepted, only one painting per artist will be chosen. Entry fees are $35 for one entry, $50 for two entries, or $60 for three entries. Gold Patrons may enter up to 3 paintings free of charge. All paintings must be framed and clearly labeled on the back with title, artist name, phone number, medium, and price or "NFS". Accepted artists must pay handling fees of $25 for hand-delivered work or $50 for shipped work.
Prizes include: 1st place $2000, 2nd place $1200, 3rd place $900, Lloyd Albers Award $500, Jack Bowen Award, Board of Directors Award, Merit Awards, and Honorable Mention Certificates. A reception and awards ceremony will be held Friday, March 13, 2015, 6-8pm at the WAS-H Gallery (1601 W. Alabama, Houston, TX 77006). A limited edition catalogue is included with the entry fee. An optional Eric Weigardt workshop runs March 9-13, 2015, for $525.00 on a first-come, first-serve basis.
