37th September Competition

The 37th September Competition is an international juried competition open to all artists over 18 working in any medium. Artists may submit up to two works for a $40 entry fee, with additional works accepted for $20 each. All work must be original and completed within the last two years (2022 or later).

Submissions are made via digital images (JPG format, smaller than 5MB, full screen and square) or video (maximum 100MB, not exceeding 30 minutes). A maximum 100-word artist statement is required for catalog and label use. Work must not exceed seven feet in any direction or 200 lbs in weight. All pieces must be framed and ready to exhibit, adhered to backing for exhibition with no direct application to museum walls.

Selected works will be exhibited from June 30 to September 28, 2024 at the Alexandria Museum of Art. Awards include First Place ($800), Second Place ($500), Third Place ($300), and three Honorable Mentions ($100 each), presented at the opening reception on July 12, 2024. A Purchase Award will be selected by museum staff and collections committee at the close of the exhibition. The juror is David Butler, executive director of the Knoxville Museum of Art. Selected artists must ship work by June 14, 2024 with a pre-paid return label. A 30% commission is charged on all sales. The museum assumes no responsibility for loss or damage during transit, though works will be insured while on premises.
