36th September Competition

The 36th September Competition is an international juried competition open to all artists over 18 working in any medium. Work must be original and completed in the last two years (2021 or later). The entry deadline is April 27, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Entry fee is $40 for two works, with additional works accepted for $20 each. Artists may submit 2-10 images and up to 3 videos. Digital images must be smaller than 5MB, saved as JPG at highest resolution, full screen and square format. Video files must not exceed 100MB or 30 minutes in length. All work must not exceed seven feet in any direction or 200 lbs in weight. Work must be framed and ready to exhibit, adhered to backing for exhibition with nothing painted or adhered directly to museum walls.

Selected works must arrive pre-paid by June 14, 2023 with a pre-paid return address label. The exhibition runs July 1 - October 7, 2023 at the Alexandria Museum of Art, 933 Second Street, Alexandria, LA 71301. The opening reception and awards presentation is July 7, 2023 at 6:00pm. Awards include First Place $800, Second Place $500, Third Place $300, and three Honorable Mentions at $100 each. A Purchase Award will be selected by museum staff and collections committee at the close of the exhibition. Jury notification occurs May 10, 2023 by email. The juror is Mattie Codling, Director of Collections and Exhibitions at the Walter Anderson Museum of Art. A 30% commission is charged on all sales. Works will be insured during the exhibition. Return shipping begins between October 9 and November 6, 2023.
