About This Call

360 XOCHI QUETZAL is an Artist and Writer's Residency Program located in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico on the shores of the largest lake in the country. Chapala is 25 minutes from Guadalajara International Airport and 45 minutes from Guadalajara. The program aims to support artists, writers and musicians who would benefit from uninterrupted time to devote to their creativity by providing free housing and five gourmet meals a week.

The 2018 Fiber Residency focuses on fiber-related applications including fiberart, fiber installations, basketry, embroidery, quilting, textile design and printing, knitting, mixed media, paper-making, book arts, crochet, felting, beading, rug hooking, wearables, jewelry, weaving, tapestry, dyeing, fiber sculpture, and vessels. Writers working on fiber-related themes and musicians and composers whose focus is stringed instruments are also welcome to apply. National and international visual artists, photographers, writers, playwrights, new media makers and musicians over the age of 23 are eligible. Two-person collaborative teams are encouraged to apply. Selection is based on artistic accomplishment, a well-conceived residency project, evidence that the residency will make significant impact, and self-reliance required for a residency in the developing world.

The Winter 2018 residency runs December 15, 2018 - January 14, 2019. The application deadline is July 29, 2018 at midnight Mountain Time. The application fee is $39.00. Early Bird Discount of 20% applies to applications received before June 24, 2018. Members of the Surface Design Association (SDA) or Studio Art Quilt Association (SAQA) qualify for a 10% discount. Winners receive free live/work space for one month, free wi-fi, all utilities, laundry on the premises, weekly maid service, and a 27-page Residency Handbook. Applicants will be notified no later than September 9, 2018. Applications must be submitted through CAFE and must include work samples (3 images for Visual Artists, 1-2 videos for Musicians, 5-page double-spaced writing sample for Writers, 10-page double-spaced sample for Playwrights, 5-page single-spaced sample for Poets).
