About This Call
The 360 XOCHI QUETZAL Artist and Writer's Residency Program is located in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico on the shores of the largest lake in the country. The program offers 3-5 live/work spaces with free housing and a generous food allowance. Chapala is located 25 minutes from Guadalajara International Airport and 45 minutes from Guadalajara. The residency aims to support artists, writers and musicians who would benefit from uninterrupted time to devote to their creativity.
National and international visual artists, photographers, writers, playwrights, new media makers and musicians over the age of 23 are welcome to apply. Selection is based on artistic accomplishment, a well-conceived residency project, evidence that the residency will make significant impact, and self-reliance required for a residency in the developing world. One live/work space is earmarked for a writer and one for an emerging artist. Two-person collaborative teams are also encouraged to apply. The application fee is $39.00, with an early bird discount of $9.00 available and a $10 discount for re-applicants.
The Winter 2015 residency runs December 14, 2015 - January 13, 2016. This is a free one-month residency including a private, fully equipped live/work space, free wi-fi, bi-weekly maid service, utilities, and a $1,000 peso food stipend. Studio space and equipment include large work tables, wall space, desks, professional easels for painters, a Cress sample kiln for ceramic artists, and a 33" floor loom for weavers. One live/work space has a private kitchen, living room, bedroom and full bathroom geared towards musicians. Applicants will be notified no later than October 18, 2015. Applications must be submitted through CAFE with required work samples: 3 images for visual artists, 1-2 videos for musicians, 5-page double-spaced writing sample for writers, 10-page double-spaced sample for playwrights, or 5-page single-spaced sample for poets.
