About This Call
The 360 XOCHI QUETZAL Artist and Writer's Residency Program is located in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico on the shores of the largest lake in the country. The program offers three live/work spaces with year-round climate and stunning lake and mountain views. Chapala is located 25 minutes from Guadalajara International Airport and 45 minutes from Guadalajara. The residency aims to support artists, writers and musicians who would benefit from uninterrupted time to devote to their creativity by providing free housing and a generous food allowance.
National and international visual artists, photographers, writers, playwrights, new media makers and musicians over the age of 23 are welcome to apply. Selection is based on artistic accomplishment, a well-conceived residency project, evidence of significant impact, and self-reliance required for a residency in the developing world. One live/work space is earmarked for a writer and one for an emerging artist. Two-person collaborative teams are also encouraged to apply. The application fee is $36.00. Work sample requirements: up to 3 images for visual artists, up to 2 audio files, up to 2 videos, with a maximum of 7 total samples.
This is a free one-month residency offering a private, fully equipped live/work space, free wi-fi, bi-weekly maid service, a food stipend of 1,000 pesos, and all utilities. The Spring 2015 residency runs May 1 - May 31, 2015. The application deadline is January 18, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Applicants will be notified no later than February 15, 2015. Studio space and equipment include large work tables, desks, professional easels for painters, a Cress sample kiln for ceramic artists (fires to cone 6), and a 36" floor loom for weavers. All live/work spaces have a private kitchen, living room, bedroom, and full bathroom. Spouses or collaborators are welcome with a $200 surcharge per month. Children, guests, and pets are not permitted. Smoking and firearms are prohibited. Applications must be submitted through the CAFE website with required work samples.
