About This Call
360 Xochi Quetzal invites visual artists of all mediums and college students enrolled in art programming to apply for a residency experience during Mexico's Day of the Dead celebrations. The residency offers free accommodations in an individual ensuite studio with daily breakfast included. Residents will be transported to multiple communities celebrating the holiday and will have considerable time to explore festivities, set up easels, sketch, photograph, and create works inspired by Dia de Muertos activities across at least six different days.
The residency is based in Ajijic, just blocks from the Feria Maestros del Arte, a gathering of artisans from across Mexico showcasing handmade works. Residents will have opportunities for photography, plein air painting, sketching, and participation in the festival. Residents are also included in one 360XQ salon called Artistas Juntos, where they share their work, inspirations, and process with other residents and art enthusiasts.
Applications require six examples of work, a CV or resume, and an artist statement. A panel of artists from the Ajijic arts community will review submissions and make a collaborative decision on the recipient. Entry fee is $40.00. Entry deadline: September 21, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
