About This Call
360 XOCHI QUETZAL is a free artist residency program located in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico on the shores of the largest lake in the country. The residency supports artists, writers, and musicians who would benefit from uninterrupted time to devote to their creativity. Winners receive free housing and five gourmet meals a week, allowing residents to make artistic progress without the stress and distractions of daily life.
National and international visual artists, photographers, writers, playwrights, new media makers, and musicians over the age of 23 are welcome to apply for the competitive residency. Selection is based on artistic accomplishment, a well-conceived residency project, evidence that the residency will make significant impact, and demonstration of self-reliance required for a residency in the developing world. Two-person collaborative teams are also encouraged to apply. The application fee is $39.00, with a 20% early bird discount available for applications received before June 25, 2017. Artists reapplying qualify for a $9 discount. Work sample requirements include up to 3 images, 2 audio files, and 2 video files (7 total samples maximum).
The Winter 2017 residency runs December 14, 2017 through January 13, 2018. The application deadline is July 30, 2017 at midnight Mountain Time. Applicants will be notified by September 10, 2017. Applications must be submitted through the CAFE website and must include work samples. The residency award includes a free live/work space for one month, free wi-fi, all utilities, laundry, weekly maid service, and a 27-page Residency Handbook. Residents are responsible for travel to and from Mexico and local transportation costs. Chapala is located 25 minutes from Guadalajara International Airport and 45 minutes from Guadalajara.
