About This Call
The 360 XOCHI QUETZAL Artist and Writer's Residency Program is located in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico on the shores of the largest lake in the country. The region offers year-round perfect climate and stunning lake and mountain views. Chapala is located 25 minutes from Guadalajara International Airport and 45 minutes from Guadalajara, one of the largest cities in Mexico with abundant cultural resources including museums, galleries, theatre and artist supplies.
The program supports artists, writers and musicians who would benefit from uninterrupted time to devote to their creativity. National and international visual artists, photographers, writers, new media makers and musicians over the age of 23 are welcome to apply. Selection is based on demonstrated artistic accomplishment, a well-conceived residency project, evidence that the residency will make significant impact, and self-reliance required for a residency in the developing world. One live/work space is earmarked for a writer and one for an emerging artist. Two-person collaborative teams are also encouraged to apply.
The winter residency runs December 16, 2014 - January 16, 2015. This is a free one-month residency offering a private, fully equipped live/work space, free wi-fi, weekly maid service, a food stipend of $1,000 pesos and all utilities. Studio spaces include large work tables, generous wall space, desks, professional easels for painters, a Cress kiln for ceramic artists (firing up to cone 6), and a 36" floor loom for weavers. All spaces have private kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms and full bathrooms. The application fee is $36.00. Artists must submit work samples: 3 images for visual artists, 1-2 videos for musicians, or a 5-page writing sample for writers. Applications are submitted through the CAFE website. A spouse or significant other may join for a $200 monthly surcharge. Children, guests and pets are not permitted. Smoking and firearms are prohibited. For more information, contact [email protected] or [email protected].
