About This Call

The 360 XOCHI QUETZAL Artist and Writer's Residency Program is located in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico on the shores of the largest lake in the country. The region offers year-round perfect climate and stunning lake and mountain views. Chapala is located 25 minutes from Guadalajara International Airport and 45 minutes from Guadalajara, one of the largest cities in Mexico with abundant cultural resources including museums, galleries, theatre and artist supplies.

The program aims to support artists, writers and musicians who would benefit from uninterrupted time to devote to their creativity. By providing free housing and a generous food allowance, residents can make artistic progress without the stress and distractions of daily life. National and international visual artists, photographers, writers, playwrights, new media makers and musicians over the age of 23 are welcome to apply. Selection is based on demonstrated artistic accomplishment, a well-conceived residency project, evidence that the residency will make significant impact, and self-reliance required for a residency in the developing world. One live/work space is earmarked for a writer and one for an emerging artist. Two-person collaborative teams are also encouraged to apply.

The one-month residency is free and includes a private, fully equipped live/work space, free wi-fi, bi-weekly maid service, a food stipend of 1,000 pesos plus all utilities. Studio spaces provide large work tables, generous wall space, desks, and free wi-fi. Visual artists have access to a professional easel, ceramic artists can use a Cress sample kiln firing to cone 6, and weavers can use a 33" floor loom. Each live/work space has a private kitchen, living room, bedroom and full bathroom. Residency dates for 2015 include: Spring (May 1-30), Summer (June 2-30), and Winter (December 17, 2015 - January 14, 2016). The application fee is $36.00. Applicants must submit work samples through the CAFE website. A spouse/significant other or collaborator may join for a $200 surcharge per month. Children, guests and pets are not permitted. Smoking and firearms are prohibited. Applicants will be notified no later than March 15, 2015.
